The town of Cody was founded in 1896 by Colonel William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody.  Buffalo Bill was a world famous figure known as, pony express rider, scout, hunter, entrepreneur, and showman. He befriended Presidents, Kings, Senators, Governors, and many of the country's most influential businessman. His legendary Wild West Show was enjoyed by patrons the world over for thirty years.

Perhaps the most famous landmark, the Irma Hotel, was built by Buffalo Bill in 1902. Named after his daughter, it was designed by Alfred Wilderman Woods, a Lincoln, Nebraska church architect. The Irma's famous cherrywood victorian backbar was a gift to Buffalo Bill from Queen Victoria. Another famous landmark just west of town is the Buffalo Bill Dam. It was, at the time of completion in 1910, the world's tallest dam.

Cody is a true western Cowboy and Cowgirl town where a friendly wave and warm smiles greet you!  Many of the original buildings still grace mainstreet, with businesses showcasing their unique wares.
